Web Development: Re-innovating Online Business
Nothing in this world of competitive business is more overrated than an “out-of-the-box” idea.
I bet, if you go into any organization anywhere in this world, you will find that with a little prompting and encouragement, you will be able to collect more innovative ideas than you could possibly use. Online business is such an innovative idea that promises to positively change the overall meaning of doing business.
But in contrast to what I said just now, there seems to be a terrible scarcity – a corporate famine – when it comes to implementing the same universally acknowledged and praised “good idea”. It is really difficult to find an organization where the so-called good ideas are implemented fast and successfully.
Simply put, good ideas are cheap and abundant, but good implementations are not. Reality is that, organizations don’t need ideas that sound productive, but they need good implementations that make or save more money. Web development is the field, which faces this challenge of implementing the novel idea of online business while giving due regards to the cost factor.
The challenge I am talking about has many facets under the name of “resistance to change”. Even though “change” has become the law of nature, it is really difficult to change a business process and even more difficult to convince the people who matter most.
Arguments, such as “its too expensive”, “boss wont like it“, “lawyers wont let us”. “Exceeding budget”, “it distracts us from our mission” etcetera are just to name a few when it comes to implementing an innovative idea, such as online business. And this resistance is so dominant that companies actually look up to third parties for implementing, or should I say, “experimenting” with innovative ideas over which people have shown enough faith.
“Actions always speak louder than words and thus implementations are more compelling than ideas.”
Web development is one such good implementation for which most companies depend on third party services. Converging further to the topic of discussion, web development refers to the collection of all the areas related to the creation of a web site for the World Wide Web. These areas include:
· Web design
· Web programming
· Server administration
· Content management
· Marketing
· Testing
· Deployment
Just as the above list suggests, web site development is a complex activity and will show results only when all the tasks involved are executed efficiently. However, executing the tasks efficiently not only needs a specialist company, but also some effort from your side. You got to be very clear about the functionality and content you want to be available on your web site. Your main objective of getting your web site developed must be crystal clear in your mind and you should communicate it to the web developers as well.
If your objective is clear and your strategies for web site development are competent, success of your web site will not be subjected to any question mark. And facts have proved that online business does generate the expected revenues.
The success of online business by and large, highlights one important fact – successful innovations cannot be divorced from successful implementations. If organizations can boost their “Return On Innovation” by investing more in good implementations, such as web development, then they must invest their capital for the cause.
